Located within the minimalist Donald Judd’s art compound in Marfa, TX, this aquaponics center’s focus is to teach the small town of Marfa about sustainability. Land has been designed to channel the scarce rains of the Texas desert to be held in tenboxcars turned cisterns. Outside gardens and aquaponic greenhouses get their water from the boxcars, and provide vegetables and fish to the town. There is a field of PV panels to supplement electricity for the small educational building, and one of the boxcars has been converted into a swimming pool.
