Sake Brewery & Museum

The location for the Sake Brewery and Museum tower proposal is the intersection of Ponto-cho alley and Shijo-dori road. This intersection is also of the intimate and discrete fabric of the alley with the bustle of the main road. At this intersection the proposal for the Sake Brewery and Museum serves a gateway to the historic center of the city.

The concept is based on the process of sake making, which relies on gravity to move the product from one phase to the next; and precise adjustment of environmental control, optimized for seasonal temperatures. The resulting design solution is a tower consisting of vertically stacked bars for sake production, extruded boxes for exhibition spaces, and consumption spaces of a bar and a restaurant on the ground and top levels.
