This project is a design and construction of a compact (120 m²) house for my father in the eastern region of Uzbekistan to replace the old, linear, and inefficient house of mud-brick. It also aims to streamline the use of abundant outdoor space while maintaining connection to the nature.
The organization of the house is based on the local tradition of the courtyard as an extension of the interior spaces. As in the Roman and Iranian courtyard typologies, there is a hierarchy of use and a sequence of privacy: a front courtyard/an exterior living room, an enclosed garden, and a small vineyard. They directly connect to the interior spaces.
