The proposed project stands out through the simplicity and functionality of its layout. Respecting the symmetry of the existing building, it draws its inspiration from the school’s traditional layout. The result is a U-shaped plan that enfolds the courtyard, protecting the children while continuing to open onto the adjoining park. The single storey building remains at a human scale, presenting a lively façade alternating colour and transparency, solids and voids. Although seemingly complex, the façade is assembled from simple coloured aluminium modules whose volumetric interplay contributes to the dynamism of the building. The covered part of the playground is centrally positioned, providing a meeting point and the link between the school’s two wings.
