Redesigning WDNA the Miami jazz station is 1% pro bono architecture for a non profit organization that extends beyond its entertainment but its outreach to the community. The WDNA lately has invested in an older building that required a touch that can turn it a local Miami landmark fit for the station reputation. The old building needed a new floor plan and façade to accommodates and communicate the jazz station spirit and artistic direction. The interior space is minimal and allows a multi-use for an optimized functionality while the façade is translucent membrane that emphasizes the horizontal proportion of the building. The point of entry is important moment where the threshold is symbolized by a pure geometrical rectangle that invites to the world in the most basic but yet intriguing. Green is also on the mind of the WDNA, so we introduced a green wall on the eastern wall for additional insulation and a buffer the bare space of the parking lot. We also introduced A bamboo garden with sky lights on top in order bring more light and liveliness the façade.
Finally, the artistic expression of jazz and modernity were merged to recreate the new face of WDNA in the city of Miami.
