Rapid Re(f)use, a project completed with Terreform ONE, investigates the global culture of consumption. Landfills nationwide are beginning to reach capacity, while legislation is restricting both existing and new use. Coupled with a projected population increase of 1 million by the year 2030, New York’s current garbage problem is quickly surmounting to a municipal crisis. The radical solution proposes rethinking waste as the city’s new building resource. Using automated robotics, waste is reused to 3D print buildings in the future city where waste and resource become indistinguishable.
