Exposition Park and USC Coliseum Redesign

This redesign of Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum proposed a modern venue for USC football, while providing a new master plan design for Exposition Park (an open space just south of USC that encompasses the Coliseum). The master plan design aimed to maintain the historic museums and rose garden, but reorganize the park into a cohesive space that would attract both students and members of the residential community. A new aerospace museum, which is needed to house the space shuttle, will be added to the assemblance of existing museums. A new soccer stadium for Chivas USA and an aquatics center are also planned. In redesigning the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum I chose to remove most of the exterior but keep the peristyle entrance — the most iconic part of the stadium. By designing the project around the peristyle entrance it becomes more prominent and even more important to the site. It allows the commemoration of the site’s past while still creating a modern stadium experience.
