Studio I ~ Cistercian Monastery in Hot Springs, NC on a predominately barren site besides a cemetery to the east. Buildings and architectural elements were mainly concerned with the focal mind state of monks towards God so forms emphasized the enlightened spirit of the monks. Dialogue was created by the meeting of horizontals and verticals represent the axis of man and the divine.

Through rigorous process the apparent need for sustainable emphasis was added to the program and the site became a informative space that discusses the crucial importance and consideration for water as resource as well ideals of new urbanism specifically proximity.
