Wakefeild Urban Design Planning

Wakefield Public realm is that it is much need of development in the Kirkgate area.  Merchant gate and the Westgate station have under gone major redevelopment with the inclusion of the new Trinity centre.  The connection from the old Victorian Kirkgate station is disjointed and uninviting to anyone who wishes to stop at this station to head to the shopping precinct.
This is more than likely to be avoided if you are not familiar to the area.  The station is dilapidated and long overdue repair and redevelopment.  The choice to not redevelop the station would affect a possible new connection for Wakefield.  The south of the station has land that could connect to the future development of the Wakefield riverside e development.

Transformation of the southern gateway into the City is well underway and presents an exciting new cultural dimension into the city. The waterfront scheme includes the Hepworth Wakefield, and commercial developments including high quality living, office and riverside leisure accommodation and activities in both the new buildings and the conversion of historic buildings.

This development would add a new connection to the city centre, major benefits to the public realm of Wakefield and regeneration to the city centre. It would increase the economic growth in this small significant historical town.
