Gansevoort Eco-Hotel

Originally Eco-Hotels were hotels set within a natural landscape that utilized traditional and local building methods. Today Eco-Hotels are often associated with "Green Building". The Gansevoort Eco-Hotel is an urban Eco-Hotel where detritus, and refuse is a part of daily life within this urban context of New York City.  In this disposable, replaceable society this hotel serves as a didactic experience for travelers in the hopes that this awareness from start to finish of the recycling process will make recycling a large-scale success in NYC.  The transfer facility is actually within the hotel crossing paths with the visitors on many floors.  They are separated by a barrier that both blocks the noise of the machinery, and the smell emitted from recyclable refuse.  Spaces overlooking the sorting and processing zones are demonstration spaces for recycled products and furnishings used within the hotel rooms.  This allows the visitor to see the start to finish process of the recycling efforts in New York City. located on the Lower West Side of Manhattan on the Gansevoort Pier in the Hudson River, the hotel boasts views of Midtown, Tribeca, and Jersey City. All hotel rooms have great views with floor to ceiling windows. This hotel serves as an example of the new typology, the urban Eco-Hotel.
