A stop for a campus van includes a new paved pathway from an existing parking lot and replaces existing tent shelters with a system of stacked slabs that can be adapted easily for insertion into other sites around campus while still maintaining a single language.
The structural system consists of 2-inch diameter threaded steel tubes sitting on concrete piers. Nuts screwed onto the rod support the concrete slabs which are reinforced with a half inch steel plate. An aluminum sleeve fits on top to hold the slab in place, mask the tube, and protect the structure from weather. Wood slats running along the seating areas keep the user off the cold concrete and provide a seat where water will not pool.
