Detroit Recreation Department – Patton Community Center Detroit, Michigan
David Milling & Associates Project Coordinator
• $10,000,000 Transformation of an uninviting, dilapidated, heavily vandalized, and potentially unsafe neighborhood recreation center into a vibrant, exciting community center with an emphasis on life safety, accessibility, sustainability, maintenance, and vandal resistance
• Renovated and reconfigured the existing 36,000 square foot building; added 10,000 square foot, 3 story entrance and community space addition with a light-filled 2½ story atrium lobby and a cylindrical entrance vestibule with a canted oval skylight; re-skinned uninsulated brick facade with glazed brick cavity wall; refurbished outdoor sun deck
• Direct involvement in project design, including plan layout, elevation, and rendering studies, under tight time constraints; specifically responsible for monumental entrance, atrium lobby with open stair, front canopy, and exterior lighting designs as constructed
• Continuous involvement through project closeout: personally prepared most architectural documents, coordinated document set and FF&E package with consultants, and represented the firm at more than 100 design, pre-construction, progress, owner, budgeting, quotation review, and coordination meetings
• Prepared all field reports, deficiency lists, proposal requests, quote reviews, RFI responses, and official letters; continuously updated building documents
