The tower is a response to the agricultural and social crisis in Korea. It consists of two separate uses, an agricultural and fish farming business and a mental hospital. The farming utilizes a rotating aeroponic system and aquaponic systems that are situated in the double skin facade of the perimeter of the building. The hospital is situated on the inner layer of this building, which provide spaces that deal with all the aspects of mental healing, including services from optometrists, dentists, neurologists, psychologists, and psychiatrists. These two uses are joined by the multipurpose atrium space at ground level that is primarily used for the farmer’s market. This atrium helps erase the stigma of mental institutions in South Korea, and encourages the community and public to frequent the space.
