This building was originally a funeral home that was built in 1970. The base is an existing concrete slab surrounded by an 8" thick concrete masonry "cloister" of 12' by 12' spaces ideal for offices. In the center a large room for the "congregation" adapted perfectly as a studio space.
The idea here was to maximize the use of the existing building while presenting a new corporate façade to the passing street. It is located in the heart of downtown Sonoma, CA.
New energy efficient glazing, insulation, solar panels, combined with natural stone and steel elements became the focus with a material palette reflecting a diverse yet integrated approach for an office specializing in sustainable adaptive reuse design and construction consulting.
