PROBLEM: The city of Dartmouth was looking for ideas on how to revitalize an old abandoned farm site once used for raising cattle.
CONSIDERATIONS: They wanted the site to still be used for agriculture and simultaneously offer ways to teach members of the community environmental methods that could be incorporated both in building and in everyday life. It was also important to create a design that could earn the minimum LEED certification of Silver.
SOLUTION: A proposal for a farm complete with wheat fields, fruit orchards and fruit and vegetable patches along with a visitor’s center. The visitor’s center would focus on teaching the community to grow and make their own produce, baked goods and preserves. Products made on site would also be available for sale.
