Client: International Algae Competition 2011
Year: unbuilt (designed 2010 - 2011)
The "LIVING MACHINE" is an architectural / urban design entry for the 2011 International Algae Competition and is a small part of the urban scheme of the Sacramento Botanical Discovery Center [SBDC], which consists of a high-speed rail terminal, a science pavilion, a performing arts center, a recreational facility and a natural park.
The design introduces a series of building systems which taps into the adjacent rivers for algae production, energy creation, a passive cooling system and for the rivers' detoxification.
The full project encompasses the urban / social / environmental need for the project as well as an overview of the systems involved.
