America's Cup Building (David Chipperfield and b720 partnership)

The building and park were the social focal point for the 2007 America’s Cup- the world’s premier offshore racing competition-, staged in Europe for the first time in over 150 years following Swiss Team Alinghi’s over Team New Zealand in 2003, and the selection of Valencia as host city. The Louis Vuitton Cup started in April 2007.

I started to work in this project from the beginning of the competition, with only 2 more members. It was a tight schedule with crazy deadlines. Competition was won in May, 2005 and the building was completed in 2006.

Since the very first moment the building was one of Valencia’s new icons, the building, situated in the harbour seems to be one more boat, its outstanding terraces invite the guests to watch the races and give sun protection at the same time.

My work during the competition was to help develop the ideas and concepts and drawing. After the competition a strong team was set to develop the project in a record time, then I was in charge of interior design and some façade details
