The homeowners wanted to significantly increase the size of the cute Craftsman bungalow they purchased in a historic neighborhood, but wanted the addition to be seamless in appearance and elegant but sturdy for their two young children and dog. Operating within very low eaves, I added a full second floor for bedrooms and master suite, repeating the clipped gable of the existing roof to create a new profile that looks original. A sunroom/mudroom porch accommodates sports equipment and dogwalking boots, while the master soaking tub slips under the sloped roof to create a cozy getaway. An office for the homeowner is located at the landing of the Craftsman-styled stair, creating a third level that allows business to be psychologically separated from family life.
