Transportation Museum Concept

This project was intended to be a suggestion for how to renovate an existing structure into a transportation museum. The current structure was a pre-engineered steel structure clad in metal sheathing that was previously used as a warehouse.

The design was influenced by industrial age architecture that dominated several iconic train stations of the 19th century. The adjacent structure was also the towns only train station for the now defunct L&N Railroad that has become a museum of its own. Choosing this style both allowed the structure to keep in touch with the historical purpose of the surrounding area but also blended with the existing steel structure.

The arches are steel I beams that bend over the top of the structure. The arch has played a key role in transportation infrastructure since ancient civilizations began building. These arches also represent the topography of the local region which is full of rolling hills and dense forests. These hills have always challenged us in our efforts to traverse the country.
