The client wanted to completely renovate and possibly extend there family home on the shore road outside Belfast. They wanted to explore the possibilities of a completely new way of living and using there home. The house is a modernist style design dating possibly to the late 1930's. The client stated that there was no budget to begin with, at least not until they could explore some possibilities.

New Studio for MacGabhann architects at Ballaghderg, Letterkenny, Co Donegal
The relocation of MacGabhann architects existing studio from that adjoining the MacGabhann family residence to a new location within same property boundary.
The proposed scheme consists of a steel portal frame structure, block cavity wall construction with timber roof structure. The complete building is clad with galvanized corrugated tin.
The ground floor contains entrance hall, Kitchen, meeting, restrooms and filing room. The first floor is a completely open plan office space for the entire staff.
Planning permission was granted early 2007 and began on site October 2007.

Haran House
Private house design for Haran family at Legnahoory, Kilmacrennan, Co Donegal.
Client is a retired Garda Siochana who is now a full time sheep farmer. The land on which he farms the sheep has an old dilapidated farm house and out buildings.
While he wishes to keep the existing farm house he and his wife came to the practice seeking a new modern design as they had read about the practice's work in some publications.

Rosapenna Hotel
Project for 60 No holiday golf cottages for Rosapenna Hotel LTD at Rosapenna, Downing’s, Co Donegal.
The purpose of this development was to address the issue of holiday accommodation by designing a higher density model that sensitively connects the existing built fabric of the Rosapenna Golf Links i.e. the existing Rosapenna Hotel and the new Clubhouse and enhances the profile of the Rosapenna Hotel and Downing’s as a popular holiday destination.

Letterkenny Master plan & Urban Design
Preparation of urban design guidelines and urban framework for the greater Letterkenny area. It would in effect be an extension of the Urban Design Brief previously prepared for the Letterkenny Town Centre Extension Area and would include development of a “Riverside Gateway”, linkages to the Main Street and historic town centre, Ballymacool, Town Park, Hospital, Glencar and Rogers Burn. Tying the new and old town centres together and making the areas more pedestrian friendly are key targets of the proposals. It would build on previous studies (e.g. Ferguson McIlveen) and build on existing amenities, in particular the River Swilly.

Omagh Arts Centre
New Arts and cultural centre for Omagh, Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland.
The new Omagh Arts Centre is to be situated off the Main Street, the chief thoroughfare of the town, behind what was the original Omagh Town Hall (now demolished) and in front of the Strule River. It is to be a multi-functional state-of-the-art building which will incorporate a number of arts facilities including a mid-sized auditorium, as well as a relocated Tourist Office and a café/restaurant. The project is also a major urban regeneration scheme which will transform the river bank and surrounding area, creating new civic spaces and walkways and a pedestrian bridge across the river to link up with the Further Education College on the other side. The regeneration and external enhancement aspects of the scheme are being funded by ODC and DSD; Arts Council Lottery funding is being directed to the arts functions of the building.

Letterkenny Town Extension Master-plan
Letterkenny Town Council appointed MacGabhann Architects to prepare an Urban Design Brief to guide future development within an area of land identified in the Development Plan as the Letterkenny Town Centre Extension; i.e., the lands bounded by Pearse Road, Port Road and the River Swilly, approximately 1 km2 in size.
The Urban Design Brief was to consider linkages to the existing town centre, the role and potential amenity of the river(s), car parking, pedestrian and vehicular routes, civic spaces and it seeks to provide design guidelines for future development in terms of setback, heights, volumes and materials.
