DCP Office - Bhiwandi

Situated in proximity to Mumbai Agra road, the site in Bhiwandi was designated for government use. The government subsequently granted the land to the esteemed Commissioner of Police Sthana, which eventually became the setting for the DCP office. As per the client's directive to conceive a structure resembling an edifice of administration, the design team at Vivek Bhole Architects Pvt Ltd proceeded to create a frontage that emanates formality, and meticulously fashioned a facade that exemplifies a refined and dignified structure. Their endeavour resulted in the conception of a formal building that is emblematic of the ethos of authoritative power. The emphasis was placed on functionality over aesthetics, and after a series of consultations with the DCP, the requirements were eventually settled upon. Owing to the significance placed on the security aspect during the design process, assiduous efforts were made to incorporate it seamlessly into the ultimate deliverable. As a result, public access to the building is restricted and only permitted through a singular entry point.

Due to the constrained size of the plot, a petite lawn has been allocated at the fore of the structure, contributing to it’s overall look. Additionally, a flag post is prominently positioned in front of the porch, serving as a patriotic and symbolic representation of the building's purpose. The establishment is constructed primarily with RCC, fortified with Aerated Concrete blockwork, thereby reinforcing its structural integrity. It comprises a basement level and is designed with a verticality of three storeys above ground, encapsulating the ground floor and two upper floors. The facade boasts an aesthetic touch with the application of glass, while brick-textured paint is utilised to further enhance its visual appeal.

Upon entry into the building, one is welcomed by a double-height lobby, replete with an abundance of natural light. The linear arrangement of the rooms then seamlessly leads the way. Regarding significant areas, on the ground floor, the building houses wireless and traffic offices, while the first floor is designated for special branch offices. Finally, on the topmost level, the DCP cabin is positioned, and configured in a manner that optimises privacy, with the degree of seclusion progressively increasing from the lower to the upper floors. The first and second-floor levels hem in dormitories for SRPF personnel, with the added advantage of being able to house supplementary staff during periods of heightened activity, such as festivals and elections. The interior ambience is embellished with vitrified flooring and a neutral colour scheme, perfectly complementing the wooden tables that epitomise the quintessential government building aesthetic.

The DCP office has a thoughtfully crafted infrastructure, which includes a septic tank to efficiently manage drainage requirements, and a rainwater harvesting tank that contributes towards sustainable water conservation practices. Moreover, distinguished high-ranking officials are offered the privilege of a top-of-the-line HVAC system, to ensure optimal comfort levels.

The overarching aim of the edification of the office was to procure the highest degree of comfort and operational efficacy by employing fiscally responsible and ecologically sustainable means. The central tenet of the construction process was to meet the needs of the users by giving primacy to functionality. The design of the workspace adheres to ergonomic principles and features the ideal combination of furniture to facilitate a flawless experience for the users. A well-lit and properly ventilated environment has been created to guarantee that the occupants are at ease and productive. The design of the office has been conceived taking into account the contextual milieu of Bhiwandi, with scrupulous regard on ensuring that the surrounding environment remains undisturbed, while simultaneously emitting an aura of authoritative administration.
