Dwelling As Identification

The construction of dwelling in the urban fabric aims to create identity both in the context of its local environment and the larger framework of the city. A dweller’s connection with the community is situated on their adjacency to the public  network around them. This urban social housing project is nestled between both the East River (off the eastern shoreline of Manhattan) and a communal field in the center of the island, essentially making the site an active bridge between the local community of Roosevelt Island and the larger construct of the city. Primary circulation fashions itself parallel to the river, focusing movement along the prominent features of the site that resemble community, where tertiary circulation serves to move out from this core to either field or city.
