On the campus of Case Western Reserve University the school is building a new library. The library will be at the heart of the campus where many people will be interacting with the site. This library has to house an extensive collection of books and journals, along with a small museum for antique artifacts.
The library will be an area where students, faculty, researchers, and visitors can explore. The goal for this project is to be able to incorporate many different spaces into a very public building.
On the site there is a hard edge along the busy street of the site to the South in comparison to the open campus field to the North. As a response to the site conditions, the building sits on a rectangular plinth dividing the two sides of the building. Students flow from the North while the public enters at the Ground Level to the South.
A perforated facade creates a lighted feeling to offset the large tower in the landscape- giving glimpses to the interior where the skin pulls back from the floorplate edge.
