The location of the 1100 Figueroa Tower near the proposed LA LIVE development will provide
the tower with the opportunity of becoming Los Angeles’ most iconic tower in the city. The design
intentions were not to achieve icon status by merely erecting the tallest structure in the city. The tower calls for a unique experience. The procession through the building was looked at heavily. I wanted more than a grand entrance that is immediately lost as one enters into the “central” elevator core. The elevators in this case have been removed from the buildings center and placed along its southeast facade. Occupants of the elevators will be able to enjoy fascinating views of the city as the approach their destination. Los Angelenos and visitors alike will also be able to partake in this experience from many parts of the city, for the glass encased tower will allow them to observe the buildings temporal nature. The form of the building was approached in a way that gestures towards the change in program from office to hotel.
