Historic Firehouse Rehabilitation into Community Outreach Center and Art Gallery

The Caribbean Cultural Center / African Diaspora Institute was given a historic 200 year-old New York City Firehouse for one dollar in hopes the outreach group would use the building to again serve the community of Harlem. In 2010 a design was drawn up that would add two floors to the existing building, preserve its facade and update its interior with the new program which included a completely new structure and up-to-date code compliant egress. The new program consisted of Flex Spaces for Presentations and Event Receptions, an Art Gallery with Walk-out Terrace, a Media Center and Administration Spaces. The Media Center composed of a Graphic Design Suite, a Video Composition Studio and an Audio Recording Studio. Ricardo provided the field documentation of the existing conditions, schematic design and produced the CAD drawings work under the supervision of Francisco Ruela, RA while under the employment of CSA Group. Ricardo also had a major role in the M/E/P coordination with CSA's in-house engineers.
