This project investigates the monotony and repetiveness of suburbia. Using patterns, the goal was to find new ways to organize the current suburban condition.
Looking into Somerville, New Jersey, a typical suburban neighborhood undergoing major developments, the idea is to use the pattern and lay out a master plan that would fix the monotony of suburbia, but maintain the organization of individual properties. The site is a 75 acre landfill with a river and major highway running along the south and a small shopping center running along the north side.
I am proposing a development of housing and commercial spaces that will occupy the site.
Using patterning as a tool, different housing types, commerical buildings, and public spaces were
developed and imposed onto the site.
