This renovation included changing the building’s use from a 10,000 s.f. bank to a 7,000 s.f. place of assembly and reading room. The need for accommodating a space for 100 people was accomplished through the selective removal of a portion of the original second floor. Portions of the existing structure remained and addition beams and columns were added to create an intimate volume around the new seating. The newly expressed structure and surrounding surfaces are straightforwardly detailed and expressed with subtle colors and an abundance of natural light filtering down from second floor windows.
