Municipal Arts Society, New York City, Planning and Design Intern

I worked as a research assistant on the Midtown East Rezoning Report. My work included researching the history of Grand Central Terminal, the land use and zoning regulations of the area, as well as street-scape design. In addition I worked on various mapping analysis for the report regarding congestion, transportation and employment in East Midtown.

My current project involves researching the history around the special permit at Madison Square Garden and the how moving the entertainment center will provide a way to lessen congestion within Pennsylvania Station.

As a teaching assistant I attend class sessions, answering questions and assisting students in class exercises. In addition hold office hours once a week where I teach and assist students with class projects. I am also in charge of grading weekly assignments.

I worked as a research assistant analyzing the role of parking lots, vacant land and underused parcels on land assembly in New York City over the past 15 years. This analysis was done through GIS to analyze orthographic photos, PLUTO files and various databases. This research was part of a paper published by the Center for Urban Real Estate entitled "Understanding the Role of Parking Lots for Urban Redevelopment: Interim Uses or Permanent Presence?".

At this small firm I dealt with the design and construction of various projects, ranging in scale from small residential apartments to Federal Courthouses. My involvement in projects varied between documentation, design and management. I was also responsible for redlining construction documents, managing small projects and aiding in development of details, surveys, research, specifications and presentations. By successfully managing the construction of a small health clinic in Union Square, our firm was rewarded with the design and renovation of their new office space in Brooklyn, NY. Selected as part of a team to work on the GSA renovation of the Clemente Ruiz Nazario Courthouse and Federico Degetau Federal Office Building in San Juan, PR. Also, I participated in a week-long field survey of the complex to document the project and existing building conditions.

This firm specialized in consulting work for various construction and Architectural firms. Projects ranged in scale from small residential row homes to commercial office complexes. My involvement in projects were varied. Responsibilities included redlining construction documents, developing details and specifications, as well as research, visual presentations and surveys. I was also selected to perform an extensive week long survey and organize documentation for a feasibility study on the curtain wall renovation of the PECO building in Philadelphia, PA.
