About

My name is Karina Kentsis Henriquez. I graduated with a BA in Sociology from Boston University in 2003; and with an MFA in Interior Architecture + Design from the Academy of Art in 2012. In the years between attaining my two degrees, I explored opportunities in business from production and project management, to real estate, and lastly sales. Through all of my experiences, professional and social, my love for people and the study of related topics have always been present in my life.

Who I am as an individual is growing every moment of every day. The commitment I have to self exploration and achievement takes precedence in everything I do in my life.

In studying the self and the individual, I have always recognized the relevance of the whole or the society, and in considering the society, the role of my physical surrounding environment has intrigued my personal development. The fascination of my environment's impact and its' beauty on my state of mind has very much transpired into a passion for design.

From a very young age, I have found delight in analyzing the flow of movement in the universe, in each culture, in each individual lie, and at a basic level, in each space. The way a space is constructed has a tremendous impact on our subconscious. Alain de Botton, author of "Architecture of Happiness", argues that our surroundings heavily influence who we are as people and that "it is architecture's task to stand as an eloquent reminder of our full potential." Alain de Botton's portrayals of the direct relevance of architecture on our identity poses a rather interesting thought for me and further inspires my reflection of our surrounding's influence on our understanding of ourselves and our role within this society. It is really this fascination that has led to my love of architecture, to my love of design, and my search to understand the intersection of function and beauty in design.
