Design House Kitchens and Appliances, LLC, Savage, MD, US, Designer, Estimator, Webmaster

As a design team member at Design House Kitchens & Appliances I had the opportunity to successfully execute a range of projects, from the 300 unit LEED silver certified Foulger Pratt Apartment complex to custom home remodels. I was primarily responsible for assembling and amending construction documents for the project architects and our in-house installation team. We produced necessary bidding documents complete with plans and elevations of the 70 different unit types and price breakdowns of each, outlining three cabinet / appliance options ranging in price and quality. This project required additional attention to LEED certification requirements; all products used must be manufactured within 500 miles of the Virginia-based apartments and we were to monitor our own waste management on site. Largely due to this project, our design team was credited with successful design and execution of over $2 million worth of revenue for the company in 2010. My strength in digital media and graphic design allowed me to participate in website redevelopment; I was responsible for the generation of all front-end content including images, text content, and general website structure.

Education

NewSchool of Architecture & Design, San Diego, CA, US, MArch, Master of Architecture (4+2)

Gained expansive knowledge about the field and profession of architecture. Studio classes allowed me to explore my interests as an architectural designer.

Active research into programmatic demands and constraints of a Radiology Suite for UCSD taught me valuable lessons about client-designer interactions. Work environments for radiologists must have a finely tuned quality of light, sound, and temperature, requiring a high attention to detail.

Researching the role of the architect as the developer revealed a side of the profession that was previously quite blurry to me. Designing a small mixed-use apartment complex and retail store, we calculated property values, construction costs, and expected revenue to accurately market rental rates. Design was spatially optimized with respect to local building code regulations.

Various other projects allowed me to investigate the computational applications to architecture. Thesis work largely involved the design of a fabrication process that reuses formwork in a zero-waste, stackable concrete tower of panels.
