I have (5) years of educational and professional experience with interior design. In attaining my degree, I became adept at the design process including research, problem solving, planning and design. On the flipside, my current position has provided me the opportunity of learning the dealer/representative side of the industry. I have provided excellent customer service to the architecture and design community while working for a commercial furniture representative. Tasks include managing the Resource Library, updating catalogs at A&D firms throughout the Pacific Northwest, assisting management in completion of Request for Proposals for both GSA and non-GSA commercial furniture specification bids, as well as maintaining a positive work environment for guests in the showroom. I am proficient in AutoCAD for Windows and Macintosh systems, Revit, Sketch Up, Adobe Photoshop CS4, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Design is an aesthetic, political, and social discipline and I have found my interests outside of Interiors have become my interests within the field as well. my excitement for Art History has resulted a focused concern for History/Development of Interiors.
Through my travels, I have discovered the aesthetic value of design by seeing how tangible evidence of the past enhanced the character of the city. I walked past ancient ruins, fascist buildings, and Renaissance facades coexisting harmoniously on the same blocks. The imperfections and happy accidents that come from generational collaboration create sequences and spaces that are more exciting and dynamic than one can create on a raised site.
I have developed the ability to critically and analytically examine buildings and spaces, in studio. I acquired skills such as diagramming by hand as well as modeling with computer programs. I am able to draft and render by hand and computer models help me with final client presentations. In the coming years, I hope to apply my skills in the professional world and gain practical experience in the field of interiors.
