Mr. Ward has 13 years of experience in Architecture, Graphic Design, and working with Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology. He has been with Tishman for more than a year and serves as Technology Research Manager, working with the Emerging Technologies group to recommend hardware and software solutions to enable other to better complete day to day tasks. In addition to assembling 3D Models and graphic assets – including detailed logistics plans, fly-through videos, etc. – for projects, proposals, and client interviews and presentations. He is proficient in Autodesk: AutoCAD, Revit, Maya, 3DS Max; Rhino, 3D, Sketch up, Maxwell Render, V-Ray, and Grasshopper, as well as Adobe: Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, InDesign, and Quark.
James began study of architecture at the Design & Architecture Senior High School (DASH) where he first learned the principles of design and how to express himself artistically through drawing, painting and sculpting; as a well as a four (4) year intensive study of architecture in design studios lead by practicing Architects. In the same span and into his collegiate studies he held internships and part time employment at Miami-Dade County Department of Planning & Urban Design, Miami Beach Department of Planning & Historic Preservation, and The City of Miami - Virginia Key Beach Park Trust.
These were all invaluable experiences where James learned how the public sector works through the design and build process in both small scale projects such as the Rehabilitation of the Historic Hampton House in Miami Dade County. As well as, large scale projects such as the Preservation and Design of the historic Virginia Key Beach project an almost 100 acre site on a barrier island, needing both restoration of existing structures and the waterfront and the design of 200,000 square foot Museum on the site.
James' departure from Miami occurred in 2007 his junior year at Florida International University were he was studying architecture in a four (4) year program. I elected to follow my desire to attend Pratt Institute, where his talents could better be sculpted into a career as an Architect in their five (5) year program. As a transfer student he was placed in an excelerated program which was completed in the spring of 2010. This experience was unparalleled, and with the guidance and qualifications of my professors he was endowed with the techniques and skills of the trade.
Through additional study in Architecture James attained the adeptness to apart of the future of the Architectural practice. Designing structures that fulfill social obligations while crafting not just sustainable but responsible systems that generate rather than consume. James believes that his generation of Architects has the "responsibility to lead the practice to a new front dealing with the crisis of global warming, shortages in water and oil, urban over population and suburban sprawl. We as Architects have the power to make the greatest change" and James intends to be the change that he seeks.
