Chia-Min Wang's interest in spatial design began during his undergraduate studies in theater, film, and media. The overlay of cultural, international, visual, textural, as well as performance challenges has opened him to a global sense of design. He believes the combination of these experiences strengthens his passion for architecture.
Chia-Min received his Architecture degree in the Master of Interior Architecture from Rhode Island School of Design. At the intersection of architecture, conservation, and design, Interior Architecture takes an innovative approach to the reuse, sustainability, and transformation of existing buildings. And unlike the fields of interior design and decoration, Interior Architecture looks less at the application of surface materials than at understanding the design of buildings from inside out.
Chia-Min joined ODA as an Interior Architect in 2015. Before joining ODA, he completed a successful Internship at Moshe Safdie Associates and worked as an Architectural Designer at Tighe Architecture on multiple projects in culture institutional, hospitality, and residential.

As an interior architect, CHIA-MIN works with the project team to interpret, organize, and execute the interior architecture for multiple projects. Prepare design presentations including site to analyze, sketches, and material boards. Develop concepts from schematic design through design development and architectural construction drawings including details as well as millwork details and specifications. Meanwhile, coordinate with project teams, provide construction documents, and specifying FF&E, materials, and appliances.

CHIA-MIN joined Moshe Safdie and Associates in the summer of 2010 as an intern while at the Rhode Island School of Design. Min assisted and supported the project team in various efforts/tasks, also quickly embedded himself into the project team. By the end of the internship, he was operating on par with the junior architects and making significant contributions to the projects and initiatives he was engaged in. During the time with Moshe Safdie and Associates, he worked on a research project on high-density residential developments, a competition for a mixed-use project in Singapore, and prepared the initial planning assessment for a residence in Cambridge, MA. Min also assisted in organizing our image database, adding content to our website, and completing a number of graphic design assignments.

Interior Architecture stands at the intersection of architecture, design of the built environment, sustainability, and conservation. The program addresses the design issues intrinsic to the re-use and transformation of existing structures offers through an innovative and progressive approach. It was ranked the top graduate program in the country by US News & World Report and Design Intelligence in consecutive years.
The design studio is the primary focus of the program. Working alongside undergraduate students in the department, graduates are introduced to a series of pathways that provide options as they progress on to advanced design studios. The common element in all options elected is a concern for spatial issues, informed by attention to detail. The core curriculum includes the study of history, theory, drawing, structures, materials, lighting and technology. It ensures that the successful student will have a sound grasp of all matters necessary to relate to fellow professionals in the building industry and allied fields. To support this, students are encouraged to work/ participate in studios and courses shared with other departments of the college.
While drawing and making abilities are highly valued, much of the work produced in Interior Architecture makes use of sophisticated computer programs. Applications currently in use in the department include AutoCAD, Cinema-4D, Rhino, and Photoshop. Interior Architecture studios are linked to the RISD network through wireless and hard-wired connections. Students have access to a large-format printer/plotter in the department's dedicated studio area as well as a fully equipped woodshop/3D model-making facility and rapid prototype machine.
The final year of the program culminates in a degree project that investigates interior architecture through a self-selected design program and existing structure. Through the high level of synthesis, invention, and analysis manifested in the successful final project, students are poised to enter a diverse professional setting where many opportunities and directions are possible.
