DANCING WITH RIBBON - YMCA THEATRE -NEW MEDIA LAB
Following the previous project: YMCA ticket booth, the New YMCA Media Lab/Archive addition is to develop the “floating” and “free form” space. The floating shape could attract people’s views and lead them to notice the new building.
The concept comes from the movement of Colored ribbon(streamer) which is always used in performance. The ribbon could become the one kind of extension of the performer’s body. The dynamic movement connects the relationship between performer and stage (space).
I attempt to create a movement space as same as a play, music concert, and dancing and provide
a new activated landscape in Cambridge, MA. People could walk through the fluent space. The freeform shape provides one kind of dramatic tension and atmosphere to people that is the experience from outside in. The new intervention focuses on the circulation and redesigns the new accesses for public and private use. To consider the backstage lacking functionality, the design will create a freight elevator and extend a new prop path for stage crew and performers to use.
