Carolyn migrated to Los Angeles from Macau at the age of ten. Overcoming the language and cultural barrier allowed her to mature and develop a tenacity to tackle problems until the end. Excelling in mathematics and physics while nurturing a fervent passion for art and design throughout high school, Carolyn knew right away that architecture would be a perfect fit for her.
As predicted, Carolyn fell in love with architecture while at USC. Her design talents and disciplined time management skills allowed her to maintain high grades along with an impressive portfolio. In addition to the numerous requirements prescribed by the BARCH and Communication Design (minor) curriculum, Carolyn also holds multiple work study positions to ease her parents’ financial loads while actively participating in clubs and activities such as Habitat for Humanity, Architecture for Humanity, and AIAS.
Carolyn participated in the Asia Study Abroad after her third year at USC, where she gained personal experiences of multiple cultures and soaked in various perspectives on architectural design. As a fruitful leader and effective communicator, she worked fluidly with a partner from University of Malaya and designed a winning school entry that will be built in the near future.
