I recently completed a Master of Interior Design at Pratt Institute, and I am seeking to transition into the professional world by working at a firm where I have the opportunity to grow and improve as a designer while contributing my talents and energy to a great team.
I have had the opportunity to work for several firms throughout my student career, but I most enjoyed my summer internship at Matteo Thun and Partners in Milan. For three months I worked in the interior design department and collaborated with the architects, graphic designers and product designers to complete several important client presentations. I was happy to have a lot of responsibility from the start, where I was able to design floorplans, choose material palates, create mood boards and edit presentations. Furthermore, I had a key role in the first stages of a book that will be published about Mr. Thun's career. Along with the director of public relations, I was able to brainstorm ideas and content for the book, as well as meet with the editors of the project.
During my final year at Pratt I chose an unconventional option for thesis and enrolled in the Exhibition Design Intensive. This program provides a select group of students with the opportunity to work on a series of projects that are fully designed and realized within the course of the year. I was very quickly immersed in the challenges of team work, budget management and client interactions. In most cases the team was also heavily involved in the fabrication process. I took innumerable lessons from having to work professionally and represent no only myself and the team but Pratt Institute as well. Some of this year's clients included George Nakashima, Ricoh, HBF and the Long Island Children's Museum.
