Deans Citation of Excellence in Thesis Design, Award
Since 1983, graduating students in the School of Architecture’s professional degree programs are eligible for awards: the Dean’s Citations for Excellence in Thesis Design, Citations for Excellence in Thesis Design, Honorable Mentions, and the James A. Britton Memorial Awards—Advisory Board Prize, Faculty Prize, and Jury Prize—recognizing the best final projects by graduate and undergraduate students in the professional degree programs.
Beginning in 2020, as a result of COVID, the awards have been granted through a competition open to all thesis students. This year, all the entered work is posted here as a public display. Thus the competition doubles as the Thesis Exhibition.
Prizes were determined by three groups of reviewers—Invited Critics, Faculty, and members of the Advisory Board—who evaluated the posted work and submit ranked ballots. Dean Speaks announced the winners on May 14, 2022 at the School of Architecture Convocation.
King + King Prize Nominee, Nomination
The jury awards student work in the graduate and undergraduate integrated design studios (ARC 607 and ARC 409). The criteria for selection include the ability to incorporate all areas of the professional curriculum in support of design excellence and the ability to construct clarity among abstract concepts that elevate architecture as a cultural art and the materials and technologies by which it is materialized. Projects are nominated to compete for the award by students and faculty and juried by representatives of King + King Architects.
