Communicating with partners on at least a weekly basis to ensure all parties are aware of any impacts design issues may have to budget and schedule is key to reducing delays and confusion. Quickly move forward and proceed with new solutions while documenting any and all changes for future reference.
• Develop solutions to smoothly overcome interior design issues by establishing close partnership with clients, architects, vendors and contractors. During schematic design, issues can be resolved by offering multiple solutions through a variety of space plan options. Other tools such as 3D perspectives and inspirational imagery are also great tools for communicating potential solutions to clients. During construction when lead time or unexpected delays happen, a close partnership with contractors or vendors is key to quickly resolving design issues. Always maintaining a composed professional approach to every challenge will help to elevate any tensions that may arise when design issues may begin to impact the project schedule.
• Understanding project timeline from preliminary design into construction is key to maintaining an accurate project schedule. Keys items such as drawing review/approval, fixture selection, finish material procurement, shop drawing review/approval, permitting, bidding, and construction are all targets that need to be tracked and monitored to help projects open on time and without issues.
• Execute interior design in accordance to plans by understanding scope of work prior to starting construction, familiarizing myself with architectural drawings during DD & CD’s, reviewing plans with architect and client to identifying any discrepancies to be resolved ahead of time, maintain daily site supervision during construction to ensure all design details are carried out accordingly per approved plans. Conducting weekly touch base meeting with clients and contractors to ensure all parties are updated on progress and any issues arising can be quickly addressed and resolved without delays to the project schedule.
• Obtain detailed project schedule from contractors during construction kick off meeting to ensure project is finished on time.
• Collaborate with external counterparts to understand the needs, branding and budget constraints for each project.
• Create tools, such as design packages and renderings, to help internal partners and clients understand design challenges and opportunities for area of work.
