Jochen Hartmann is a multi-media designer and software engineer. He is currently the project lead for The Synapse, a permanent installation that explores the intersections between neuroscience, data visualization and journalism. His background combines both architectural design, software engineering and artistic practice and his work has been featured most recently in exhibits at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the MAK in Vienna and currently on view at the 2016 Istanbul Design Biennial.
He was born in Berlin, Germany and holds a BFA in Sculpture from Rhode Island School of Design and a M.Arch from Columbia University, GSAPP. Jochen has worked in software engineering at Google and Morgan Stanley as well as serving as the Director of Technology for the Buckminster Fuller Institute. His current research interests include advanced data visualization, game design, machine learning and advanced web front end technologies.
