Mr. Patrick Y Wong is an architectural photographer who creates powerful images that inspire design. For over two decades his passion for portraying outstanding architecture and the remarkable people who have a hand in making the built environment has been fueled by his curiosity, admiration and appreciation of architecture. Although he attained a degree in Environmental Design from Texas A & M University and a Master of Architecture from the University of Texas School of Architecture, he was encouraged by professors to pursue a career as an architectural photographer. In 1992, he created Atelier Wong Photography in Austin with the ambition of making architectural portraits that illuminate the essence of place and celebrate the exceptional over the mundane.
What distinguishes Patrick and Atelier Wong Photography from other firms is the focus on promoting great architects, exceptional design and outstanding craftsmanship over self-promotion. The images he creates have appeared in the most significant architectural print and online publications and contributed to the global awareness of Austin and Texas as a design force. Since 1995, Patrick has served as an Associate Member of AIA Austin on both the Design Awards and Homes Tour Committee and provided pro bono photography for Small Firms Committee, CRAN, Design Voice, Emerging Professionals, Homes Tour, Design Awards Celebration and Texas Society of Architects. As a member of the Austin & San Antonio Chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers he has served as Membership Director, Treasurer and President, and as a member of Preservation Austin & Inherit Austin he has provided pro bono photography for their self-guided historical tour apps and galas. His most recent undertaking is portraying the transformation of downtown Austin through times lapse video, still and aerial photography and video.

2016 Honored recipient of Austin Foundation For Architecture Award, Award
Each year the Foundation honors leaders from the community for their contributions to our built environment. The annual honorees include at least one individual and at least one organization (public, non-profit, or private-sector) who demonstrate leadership consistent with the Foundation’s mission through the projects they initiate, lead, or champion; through influential decision making; or through financial contribution. The individuals and organizations we honor typically work outside of architectural practice, representing Austin’s broader community and making a difference in the way we all experience life in Central Texas. We recognize the scope, scale, and variety of contributions to our built environment. We welcome nominations for anyone who meets these criteria. Honorees are selected by the Foundation’s Board of Directors, are recognized during the annual Form:Function celebration, and receive an art glass piece created by Austin glass artist, Kathleen Ash of Studio K Glassworks.
