The garage has the most unique and diverse treatment of any room in a house. This relatively large, open and flexible space is free to be manipulated by the user. Often times, this means storage; however, the multitude of applications can be seen in almost every neighborhood. Garages have been transformed into man caves, workshops, offices, gyms, and some of the most successful companies have been launched from a garage. The site is located along S Alameda St. in a light industrial zone with the adjacent residential neighborhood devoid of these potential creative spaces. The surrounding conditions of the site leads the project’s public storage program to consist of flexible, rentable units that would serve as surrogate garages for the surrounding residents.
