New York, NY
This raised three-story new construction brings 21 one and two-bedroom apartments to the flood prone neighborhood of Red Hook in Brooklyn. By raising the building on piers, the design not only meets the Flood Resilience Amendment enacted after Hurricane Sandy, but allows for a space-efficient way of creating 14 parking spaces beneath it, a welcome amenity for this area of NYC.
A full glass, barrier free vestibule greets residents at ground level, where there is access to on-site bicycle parking and laundry facilities. Units are equipped with large, tilt windows, built-in heating and cooling, open kitchens with clean finishes and energy efficient appliance, fixtures and lighting throughout. Top floor units facing Van Brunt Street feature terraces with views onto the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline.
