RUSSIAN HILL TOWNHOUSE

This architecturally significant three-bedroom residence sits atop Russian Hill in San Francisco. The original John Bricknell Victorian was built in 1866 and transformed into a classic Italianate by the architect Julia Morgan in 1916. Later the home was residence to designer Anthony Hail. Recently, the home was purchased by a young family with an appreciation for innovation, creativity and play. The clients tapped NICOLEHOLLIS to reimagine the house with a modern sensibility while keeping its original “soul." A new kitchen, bathroom and master bedroom were required, as were spaces that were open and kid-friendly. The project involved a three-year full remodel. The renovation preserved the home’s myriad of original details, including moldings and fireplaces, and emphasized the expansive windows, natural light and large backyard. New furnishings include custom lighting by Bec Brittain as well as wallpaper by artist Damien Hirst and an extensive art collection. Custom furnishings designed by NICOLEHOLLIS include a mirror-polished brass bar cabinet in the dining room.
