The funny thing is that if you look closely, you can see the word "brooklyn" stylized in quasi-grafitti face. I guess this is how they try to relate this design to the "context".
For all you people who think this is ok - you dont have to live in Brooklyn and deal with this on a daily basis.
I'm not a huge fan of Frank Gehry for any number of reasons--he builds the same building over and over, that building is an object building and exists only for its own sake, that building does not relate to its inhabitants and so on--but this is perhaps the worst proposal I've seen by this (for reasons unknown to me) revered architect. From what little I have seen of this proposal, it is eye-catching, but horrible for the neighborhood and in direct contrast with what makes Brooklyn unique. Contrast cannot be good, but not when it destroys what distinguishes a neighborhood. As usual, Gehry has come up with buildings that are intriguing architectural expressions, but neglect the spacial and human qualities that are far more important than form.
Mr. Ourousseff has never met star architect that he didnt like. He is a modern day Ellsworth Toohey.....- what he writes is NOT architectural criticism or a review - its a blowjob!! Brooklyn is in many ways in the crosshairs of multiple speculative developers... Its inevitable that the neighboorhood will be doomed. Gehry's project looks like a Jerde type snowjob - complete with the cheesey lit-up Nets and Brooklyn 'graffiti' script. nice.

I live/work 8 blocks from this site...the raw schematic massing was actual a more compelling design.

Opinions are like a--holes, everyone’s got one.

ps. I'm a third-year student, so take that with a grain of salt. Just my humble (though loudly spoken) opinion.
