Memorial Site, 2010

This project reached the second place in the competition for the design of Peru´s Memorial Site, a place of memory, tolerance, and social inclusion, that offers cultural, learning, research and commemorative activities to discuss human rights issues, focusing on the period of violence 1980-2000 in Peru, initiated by terrorist groups.

The designated land for the building is located on the slopes of the hills facing the pacific ocean in Lima.

The project is conceived as a monument. Instead of inserting a building in the landscape, we purposed to place a colossal staircase that follows the slope of the land. The whole program of the building is buried into the ground, and its roof functions as an open and vivid public space, a place for encounter as well as a connection between the city and the beach.
