About

Nathan possesses over 7 years of experience in architectural design and related fields, including mechanical engineering and landscape design. His attention to detail is present throughout the preparation of construction documents, construction administration, and design technology applications. He enjoys both learning and teaching software techniques and design practices. He volunteers with CityVision – a program which teaches Washington, DC public school students how to investigate the built environment and value their role in shaping it for the future.

Prior to joining Dwell Design Studio, Nathan worked on a variety of project types including student housing, garden-style, high-rise & mid-rise multifamily, commercial, and hospitality work – a mixture of renovation and new construction projects. Since joining Dwell Design Studio, his experience has been on mid-rise and garden style multifamily projects, including podium projects.  He is very interested in the IBC 2021 proposed changes to Construction Type IV, allowing for high-rise heavy timber projects.

Nathan’s diverse skillsets are featured throughout his growing technical expertise, design creativity, and enthusiasm for urban planning, architectural design, and graphic design. In addition to design production, Nathan values the discourse surrounding sensory perception and neuroscience within the built environment. In his role of Revit Lead, he creates and maintains project-specific BIM models and troubleshoots software issues.

Nathan received his Bachelor of Architectural Studies and Master of Architecture (Professional) degrees from The University of Auckland in Auckland, New Zealand. He is actively working towards his Architectural Registration.

A database has been generated primarily from printed sources, as well as several significant online sources. This has resulted in over one thousand entries covering a broad array of architectural styles from 1835 to 2013. Several trends of design and construction have been discovered from the analysis, of which will result in publications in the near future.
