Fall Semester 2012

The semester’s design project was a restaurant for the small town of Monte Carasso, CH. A component of which was a thorough research analysis written to investigate the meaning of a Path. Here is a brief sample of the paper:

A Path, with a capital “P”, is understood as something deeper than its physical property of a surface material but something that can be transcended of its physical identity. It requires a conscious investment of oneself…the personal space of a Path can only be created by someone consciously walking through an environment, investing oneself in it. This exchange between the individual and environment is the recipe for the creation of a Path. When the exchange ceases to be present, the Path ceases to be present and becomes just a trail, route, or path. Hence, a Path is a conditional moment, existing temporarily around the individual. As the individual moves, so does the Path. It is a precise moment that exists only for that specific individual. A Path doesn’t have a right or wrong, a specific material or directions.  It just is as the individual is.
