Our clients outgrew the century old footprint of the single family cottage and needed more room. The existing space had a lot of smaller rooms cordoned off from each other and needed a design update. The solution: open up the floor plan, relocate the family room to the rear for privacy and to take advantage of solar heat gain, add a master suite with a balcony all clad in charred wood siding.
To help with warmth during Chicago winters, hydronic radiant heat was installed in the family room and basement, and older windows were replaced with low-e 3 glass, wood clad windows.
