In response to this open competition for rethinking the US/Mexico border crossing at the city of Nogales, SMA proposed replacing the wall with a mile-long undulating verdant park, anchored at each end by a mega structure. A large micro-climate dome straddles the border crossing in the center of town; one mile away, outside of town, a large reservoir or water basin hovers alongside a vehicular crossing. Rainwater from the vessel flows through the park to the dome, feeding the planted canopy. The 2017 open ideas competition was sponsored by Archstorming.
