The Technicentre in La Mulatière is an old railway site housing the repair and maintenance halls of the SCNF, a French railway company. The projet reflects the willingness to upgrade the site and its buildings or rail facilities.
At the urban scale, the project focuses on functional diversity with the concept of productive city. The purpose is to revive the industrial site by developing diverse activities, with the installation of enterprises creating wealth and jobs.
At the architectural scale, the buildings were constructed with a rationalist approach, where the structural framework is predominant on the architectural form. The goal is to preserve the building’s skeleton and its morphology. Some demolitions are necessary to ensure circulation, the natural light, and the creation of outdoor spaces.
In the current context where the objective is to rebuild the site without forgetting its past, with supporting the principle of superposed layers. Over time, the layers accumulate and are mutually transformed. Thus the project creates a new layer of life. The roofing horizontality is then reinvested, and the verticality is explored by the new extensions.
